When does cashmere go on sale?

Cashmere typically goes on sale during two major windows: End-of-Season Clearance (deepest discounts) and Black Friday (best selection).

Here is the breakdown of when to buy based on your priorities:

1. Late December – February (The Cheapest Prices)1

  • The Deal: This is the standard “Winter Clearance” window. As retailers prepare for Spring stock, they aggressively discount heavy knitwear.2

  • Discount: Usually 50% to 70% off.

  • The Trade-off: Inventory is spotty. You will mostly find “fashion” colors (bright pinks, patterns, seasonal trends) rather than staples. Core colors like black, navy, and camel are rarely included in these deep clearance sales because brands carry them year-round.

  • Best for: Scoring high-end designer pieces at rock-bottom prices, provided you aren’t picky about color.

2. November (The Best Selection)

  • The Deal: Black Friday and Cyber Monday sales.

  • Discount: Usually 25% to 40% off.

  • The Trade-off: The discounts aren’t as extreme as in February.

  • Best for: Buying staple colors (Black, Grey, Navy) in your specific size. Brands like Naadam, J.Crew, and department stores often do store-wide discounts that include these “never-on-sale” core items.

3. Summer “Off-Season” (Best for Secondhand)

  • The Deal: June, July, and August.

  • Why: Retail stores will have almost no cashmere stock, but the secondhand market (eBay, Poshmark, The RealReal) is dead quiet.

  • Best for: Negotiating. Sellers are often desperate to move winter inventory during the heatwaves. You can often make lowball offers on premium used cashmere that would sell instantly in October.

Pro Tip: If you see a cashmere sweater you love in a staple color (Navy/Black) in October, do not buy it yet. Wait four weeks for November; it is almost guaranteed to drop in price for Black Friday.
