Where is Tommy Hilfiger clothing made?

Tommy Hilfiger (owned by PVH Corp.) does not own its own factories.1 Instead, it sources from a massive network of over 500 independent factories across 40+ countries.

For a manufacturer like yourself, it is useful to look at their supply chain in tiers, as they segment production based on garment complexity and lead time.

Here is the breakdown of where their clothing is actually made:

1. The “Big Three” (High Volume & Basics)

The vast majority of mass-market items (sold in Macy’s, outlets, and general retail) come from these three hubs:

  • China: Still a massive player for PVH, but used more for outerwear, complex technical jackets, and accessories. PVH uses China for “flexibility” and smaller, diverse orders rather than just massive commodity runs.2

  • Bangladesh: The engine for knitwear basics. If you pick up a standard T-shirt, polo, or hoodie, there is a very high chance it was made here. They rely on Bangladesh for its unbeatable cut-and-sew labor costs.

  • Vietnam: The primary hub for woven shirts and sportswear.3 As brands diversify away from China, Vietnam has become the “safe” stable alternative for high-quality volume production.4

2. The “Specialty” Hubs (Fabric & Tech Specific)

  • Turkey: As discussed, this is the hub for Premium Denim and High-Quality Knits. The “Tommy Jeans” line often leans heavily on Turkish production because of the superior denim mills (like ISKO) located there.

  • India: Used heavily for lightweight cottons, madras checks, and linens. India’s strength in spinning and weaving fine cotton makes it the go-to for summer shirts.

  • Kenya & Ethiopia: PVH has been a pioneer in moving production to East Africa (e.g., the Hawassa Industrial Park in Ethiopia) to capture lower labor costs for basic workwear and uniforms, though this is a smaller percentage of their total volume.

3. The “Luxury” Tier (Tommy Hilfiger Collection)

If you buy from the “Runway” or “Collection” lines (purple label, very expensive):

  • Italy & Portugal: These locations are reserved for the highest tier of tailoring, leather goods, and limited-edition runs. You will rarely find “Made in Italy” on a standard $90 shirt, but you will find it on a $600 blazer.

4. “Near-Shoring” (Speed to Market)

  • Mexico: Used to service the North American market quickly. If a specific style is trending in the US, they can produce it in Mexico and ship it via truck to US distribution centers much faster than waiting for a boat from Asia.

Summary for Manufacturing Context

  • Tag says “Made in China/Vietnam”: Likely a standard, high-volume item.

  • Tag says “Made in Turkey/Portugal”: Likely a premium or higher-margin item.

  • Tag says “Made in Italy”: Top-tier luxury line.
