Brooks Brothers was founded by Henry Sands Brooks in 1818 in New York City. His philosophy—“to make and deal only in merchandise of the finest body”—set a quality benchmark that continues to define the brand. The Brooks family managed the company for five generations before selling to outside ownership in 1946.
